Blog tour: Never Closer by Margot Shepherd
Hello and today it's my tour date on the Write Reads tour for Never Closer. This book was given to me in exchange for an honest review.
Plot time: set across two timelines this book follows two women. In the 1940s we follow Alice, a penicillin girl, as she deals with her difficult job and her home life. In 2018 we follow Jo a mother who's daughter has meningitis. Together the two narratives intertwine when Jo finds Alice's diary.
This book was a total surprise to me. I often read dual narrative books but the way this one worked was just incredible. I felt for Jo and grew to love Alice and the parallels between the two were subtle and brilliant.
I'd never heard of the penicillin girls before and found this aspect of the book fascinating. In fact it's made me find out more about them Alice's journey through penicillin making to her dreams was just incredible.
Meanwhile Jo's story about nursing her daughter back to health after a major health scare was heart-rending. I was really rooting for her the whole time and I love how trauma was presented in this novel.
Overall I adored this book and thought it was absolutely incredible.
