Ghost roast by Shawnelle and Shawnee Gibbs

Today I'm going back to my roots and back to the world of Graphic Novels. This one was gifted to me by the lovely folks Harper 360 in exchange for an honest review. I first came across this book back when I went to Camp YA and now I get to review it for you all!
So let's get on with the show.
Plot time: After getting arrested for tresspassing in a cemetary, teenager Chelsea is forced to work for her Dad over the summer. However he's a ghost buster (sorry Ghost Roaster!) and she can see ghosts. It's a recipe for a summer of disaster and when they have a job at a plantation things go from bad to worse.

I loved this book. It's such a fun and fluffy read and will take you under an hour to get through. I enjoyed every minute of this comedy with a heart of gold. Chelsea is a spectacular lead and you could really understand her pain of having to work with her dad while all her rich friends get let off scott free.

It also delves deep into history in accessible way for teens talking about the horrors of plantation life for those not rich and white. There is an entire plot point about this that delivers a real guy punch as Chelsea reckons with the horrors of the past. This book would be a great way to bring up these issues with young people.

Overall this book is a really fun adventure with lots of diverse representation and focusing on difficult issues in a totally charming way. Totally worth a quick read
