Vamp it up: A Celebration of Great Vampire Books

I have been planning this post for a while. Vampires seem to be comign back in style with some major authors and some up and coming authors writing some truly amazing stories using the mythological legends. Then of course Anne Rice passed away and whilst she was a incredibly complicated and very problematic author theres not denying her legacy. So I thought I'd do a breakdown of 4 great newer vampire books and of course bring in Lestat because its impossible to miss him out. So please join me on this quick look at the Vampire genre.

The quick read

Baby Teeth by Meg Grehan

Told entirely in verse this quick but heartbreaking read tells the age old story of a vampire who falls in love with a human with a twist. Immy,a ages old vampire falls for flower seller, Claudia and thus begins the slow push pull between the immortal world and the passage of time. This book turns the vampiric life into a melancholy nightmare that will stay with you. Absolutely amazing!

The classic
The Vampire Lestat by Anne Rice

Arguably the best book of the Vampire Chronicles. The Vampire Lestat is a big queer celebration of everyones faviorite antihero Lestat.  One of my faviorite comfort reads this book follows the life and undeath of Lestat and the troubles and adventures he encounters on the way. A flawed classic.

The Beautiful Horror
A Dowry of Blood by ST Gibson
Dowry is the first of two on this list of explorations of Dracula's wives but they are both so different that I had to include both. this one is the story of a medieval peasant turned Vampire who married Dracula. As Dracula brings more partners into their world things take a dark turn. This book is beautiful and every lead is bisexual. Excellent.

The Raunchy One
King of Battle and blood by Scarlett St Clair
As someone who got evry into the Touch of Darkness series I knew the minute Scarlett St Clair touched the vampire genre it would be gold and boy did she deliver. A enemies to lovers, forced marriage romance with bloody violence, magic and brutalfight scenes this book is the definition of unputdownable. Absolutetly fantastic and unputdownable. do be aware though there is an awful lot of um...sexual scenes in this.

The Gothic Feminist Retelling
The deathless Girls by Kiran Millwood Hargrave
My second Dracula retelling forcusing on the Brides this one is more like Kiran Millwood Hargrave's Cinderella is Dead than Dowry. This excellent novel follows a pair of twin sisters captured from their traveller community and forced to work for evil vampires. It's a story of power, love and meeting your fate. Absolutely amazing

So there we are 5 fantastic vampire books that I think everyone should enjoy. Any recs please feel free to put them in the comments and thanks for your time
