The Haunting Scent of Poppies by Victoria Williamson: a review
Right with the formalities out of the way let's move on! Who doesn't love a spooky story around the festive season? I love them. It's the perfect weather to feel a shiver up your spine and boy do I have a good one for you
Plot time: Charlie Briggs is a big time criminal biding his time in a tiny village over the Christmas season when he steals a rare book and ends up getting far more than he bargained for.
I love a bit of horror with my festivities especially period piece horror and this book really delivered. It's a short sharp shock to the senses that will have you thinking about it until well after boxing day.
Charlie is a great character that I was hoping would have some sort of change of heart but he's a unrepentant bad guy who will pay the price. In a way it was frustrating to read because if he had just been less stubborn things would have gone so differently.
This book stuck with me for days after I read it. A truly haunting period piece.
This novella is the perfect stocking filler for a fan of a good scare or even just those you would like to give a good scare to!
