Blood Scion by Deborah Falaye: a Review

And I'm back with another slice of YA goodness that was gifted to me by Harper 360 in exchange for an honest review. It seems at the moment super cool powerful women destroying corrupt things is a real trend in YA at the moment and I love it! So let's look at another teen girl badass destroying everything in this feisty book!

Plot Time: Sloane is a Scion. Her bloodline is from the very Gods that the Nightwalkers (who own her world) are trying to destroy. However when she is conscripted into the army she is going to have to hide her powers to survive, save her family and take down those who have destoryed her people.

Blood Scion is a fantastic adventure that will go down really well with fans of The Hunger Games. In fact the two books are really similar which I really enjoyed. It's a big compliement to say the world is as well written as Panem after all. In fact I felt like I could picture the cadets and the army base they are forced to live on the entire time!

One of the best parts of this book though is Sloane's rise to power and her insatiable need for revenge. There is even the beginning of a fascinating relationship with a Nightwalker that is almost nail curlingly tense! Sloane is someone you both root for and worry about. Everytime an obstacle is in her way she manages to get round it by the skin of her teeth.

There is a scene I don't want to spoil when Sloane and a friend perform an ancient ceremony to unlock her power and it was just so riveting and amazingly well written. It's probably my faviorite bit of the whole book.

My only concern with this book is how quickly it moves at times it seems to jump super quickly and by the end you almost feel it shoudl have been maybe 2 or 3 books rather than just rammed into one. But that in a way is it's strength because you just can't put it down!

Overall Blood Scion is a fantastic book with a super strong heroine who you are going to adore. Never underestimate the girl with nothing left to lose!
