World Book Day - 5 Things to Do

So guys It's almost World Book Day so I thought it was time to crawl out of my self imposed blog exile to get all literary with you all!! So Let's Talk World Book Day!!!

So for those of you not in the know World Book Day is the day where we get excited...you guessed it books! Often this means that school children are dressing up as your favourite characters and getting National Book Tokens to get a series of books from £1.  So here are some fun tips for what to do when you are no longer at school but still wanna have some book nerd fun

Thing 1- Buy a Book

This years £1 books were a subject of controversy however the big new reveal is the £2.50 paperbacks. A full YA bestselling novel for just £2.50 I think that is damn awesome and a really cool deal. These books are an amazing selection of bestsellers including John Green, Benjamin Zephaniah and some other big ones. In particular i reccomend I Have No Secrets by Penny Joelson which I read when I won a competition from Maximum Pop!. It's such an amazing book you will not be able to put it down.

Thing 2- Dressing Up
So perhaps if you are working or super busy a full book costume is not your best move. However what you can do is subtly incorporate a characters look into your day to day wear. For example wear  a high necked white shirt, black skirt and black blazer  and Bam! you are Mary Poppins. You can dress it up or down. Or for the faint of heart why not get/make a cool book themed t-shirt.

Thing 3- Help the Cause

From donating to literacy charities to buying cool literary themed items that donate to charity. There is so much you can do. Why not have a look at the Ministry of Stories for cool ideas. For a list of great ideas for general ideas on literary advocacy try this article by Book Riot.

Thing 4- Visit your Library
With Libraries under serious threat go and visit them. If you aren't signed up to your local library go and do it. If possible why not consider volunteering. But just going down and getting a book is a great way to support them.

Thing 5- Read
This may seem the most basic of them all but try and take maybe just twenty minutes of your day and read. Just let yourself enjoy for a bit. Give yourself some relax time.

So there we go five easy things to do for World Book Day.
What are you guys doing for WBD?
